double negation?

Hi!
In a negation sentence, can I simultaneously use no and neither.. nor, or would it be regarded as a double negation?

No difference was observed between the pieces neither in the right nor in the left direction.
Or do I have to use either... or?
In general, you should use either/or, e.g.:

You should not enter the house, either from the front door or from the back.

The sentence you've provided reads awkwardly, and I'm not sure if it's correct, but you haven't provided any context. It would likely be better phrased: No difference was observed between the pieces on the right and those on the left.

You have to use eitherโ€ฆor when youโ€™ve made the subject itself negative. Otherwise itโ€™s a double negative, whereby youโ€™re saying that in of those directions was difference found โ€“ in other words, in of them a difference found!

No difference was found in either the right or the left direction. ๐Ÿ‘ Tick :tick:
๐Ÿ‘ Thumbs Up

A difference was found in neither the right nor the left direction. ๐Ÿ‘ Tick :tick:
