Bonjour tout le monde,

J'ai besoin de votre aide pour cette phrase.

<< Dans mon premier souvenir, je suis en roulette avec les écouteurs sur les oreilles, bercée de chansons. >>

Alor, en anglais, il dit ..

In my first memory, I am on <<roulette>> with earphones on my ears, << lulled>>by songs.

Is this right? I am not sure what is the meaning of roulette and also not sure about being lulled.

Merci à l'avance

Salut !

Je dirais: "In my first memory, I am rollerblading (or skating) with earphones on my ears, lulled by song."

Oui, je pense que tu l'as bien traduite, la phrase. Cela m'apparait juste .. Tout de m
I don't think he was rollerblading as a baby. He was in sth. on wheels/rollers/casters (castors), quite likely a cradle or bassinet, as gardian suggested. What threw me were the earphones: what responsible parent would put earphones on a baby and risk injuring the child? "Lulled" stands for "lulled to sleep", sth. that the rocking of a cradle can also do. The translation seems therefore appropriate.
Yeah.
That one kind of goosed me too.
As we do not know the era of the event, it is possible that it was less than 20 years ago if the author is now young. The use of small earphones was common then by young people, so it's reasonable to assume that some of these young parents may have tried to put them on their new babies. I see no reason why small speakers could not be fixed onto the cradle close to the child's ears -- making the child think they were on his ears.

But we have done the translation per se.
To dwell any longer might give this guy a Proust complex !
Right, the same thought passed through my mind... I wanted to say that he was very simply "on wheels" which is very general and can vary consideraby depending on the full context of the sentence. I assumed he was a bit older, but of course it depends on the story he's telling..

If this is his first memory EVER or first memory prior to meeting the love of his life, for example (maybe he didn't feel alive before her, blah blah) Who knows!

Yes, the earphones encouraged me to stick with my above response. I couldn't imagine a baby with them, but then again .. Your interpretations are probably more correct. 👁 Smile :)
