Engine Hut

Hi, on the top of a hill where miners put coal wastesn, using trams on rails, there is an "engine hut" - Is it a sort of little station ? Thanks
It depends how the trams are powered.
  • If the trams are pulled by cables, the engine hut will probably house the "engine" (= power winch) which pulls the cables.
  • If the trams are self-propelled, the engine hut will be a station or garage to house the "engines" (= the trams) when they reach the top.
Where is this referring to? Can you link to the source?

It isn't a station (coal tramways don't have stations), but where an engine is/was housed. The engine might be a tramway locomotive (so it is/was only kept there at night and other times when the mine was not working) or it could be a stationary engine, perhaps for working an incline or lift, or for driving machinery.

Thank You very much ! I think it's for the power winch.
It's about the Aberfan disaster.
