Hi,
The structure of the underlined sentence, quoted from "The Leavenworth Case" by Anna Katherin, seems very strange to me. How can I rearrange it to become clearer?
"It was lightly said, and lightly meant, for she did not even wait for my

This was published in 1878, so obviously it’s not the sort of prose that would be used today.
