Ergonomics

Hi everybody!
What other word would you use for ERGONOMICS? Under ERGONOMICS' heading is an alternative: NOT CONDITIONED. How can I understand it?
Thank you!
I think we need more context to understand this. Sometimes ergonomics is called "human factors engineering," but that's a rather awkward mouthful.
It is a form about accidents at work and has some contributing factors under Ergonomics' heading. It has manner of working, tool and machine design, NOT CONDITIONED, etc. I have an idea that NOT CONDITIONED may mean 'not in a good physical condition', but I am not sure.
Thank you!
Welcome to the forum, Tiger. πŸ‘ Smile :)

It's "not conditioned" you're asking about, then. It's a good question. My guess (and it's only a guess, since I've never seen the phrase) would be the same as yours.
Is the form asking about the working conditions or about the worker?

(I don't think we can answer this question with any certainty. The best thing to do is to ask the person who gave you the form what information they want.)
I would surmise that "conditioned' refers to "practiced".

The emergency stop button might be ideally placed for the machine, but if the operator had not practiced (conditioned him/herself) to use it, the response time might be unacceptably long.

Also, the task could require strength and the party was "not conditioned" to accomplish this task;

See: http://sydney.edu.au/whs/guidelines/ergonomics/ERGO1.shtml

  • Fitness for work tasks should be gradually developed. To achieve any repetitive or forceful task requires the person to gradually train their muscles and joints for this specific task. It doesn’t matter if the activity is a game of squash or data entry. If the person is not "conditioned" to the task, pain is a common response.

(This is no much more than a guess and could be 100% wrong, but it makes some sense to me.)
