Hi everyone,
Does the following sentence make sense? Is it grammatical?
I saw the leaves fallen.
I saw the plane flown.
Cheers
Interesting. I would have said that both make sense but neither is grammatical (I saw the leaves fall / I saw the leaves falling / I saw the fallen leaves - I saw the plane fly)The first one is ungrammatical. It should be either I saw the leaves fall or I saw the fallen leaves.
The second one is fine.
I saw something/somebody _____.
It seems to me that we can't fit a past participle of intransitive verb here in the blank. Am I right?
On the contrary, Wreck, Praise, and Steal are all transitive, aren't they:The following seem to involve intransitive verbs:
I saw the car wrecked.
I saw her praised.
I saw them stolen.
In all these cases, the past participle can be considered an adjective.
