fostering identification

I need to translate this sentence, but I don't really understand the meaning of 'fostering' here:
'Buddhism is perceived as fostering identification and mutual respect with the natural world'
"Le bouddhisme est perçu comme l'encouragement à l'identification et au respect mutuel avec le monde naturel"

Does it make sense, if anyone has a better translation, please don't hesitate to corect it.

Foster means to nurture or help to develop. How about "Le bouddhisme est perçu comme une aide visant à developer l'identification..." ?
