games hut

I am reading a book by Siobhan Dowd (The Bog Child) and there is an expression I do not understand.
"The two older lads, known at school as Dafters and Canny, had once blown up the games hut at school with a mixture of sugar and fertiliser."
I've tried to search for it on the Internet but have not results. Could someone tell me what a "games hut" is?

Without further information I would read the expression as [n]game[/en] plus hut[/hut] In other words, a building where games are played.

Our Irish members might have more information, however.

That much, I also understood. I was just trying to translate the phrase, so I was wondering what games could be played in a hut in the school.
I hope some Irish member would help me out.
