A question about using gerund participle:
1 "Any/The provoking of a powerful nation may end poorly for the provoker."
2 "Provoking a powerful nation may end poorly for the provoker."
I have feeling that something not right about 2, but cannot pinpoint the it, because of the near equivalence of gerund particles to full-fledged nouns.
But the following sounds okay to me though:
3 "Provoking a powerful nation may hurt the provoker."
