Which is the difference between Ghost and Phantom?
Ghost is the general word for the appearance of a dead person in the semblance of his living form
Phantom can apply to any manifestation, pleasant or not, any illusion or idea, such as "the phantom of a future utopia".

Again context would help a lot as Ghost has 12 different meanings actually and phantom has 5 or more.

Hope this helps a little.
She entered very carefully, moving silently, floating through the chamber like a phantom
In that sentence I think you could easily substitute "phantom" with ghost or appartion as far as the meaning is concerned. I suppose "phantom" is more poetical.

The words seem to have rather different feelings attached to them - rather than different meanings (which I am explaining very badly indeed).

I agree as far as this sentenced is concerned, but in general ghost and phantom aren't really always interchangeable.
