gravy : something valuable obtained as a benefit beyond what is due or expected.

How is it used? when was the last time you heard it with that meaning? could it be like: ''I helped an old lady cross the street and she gave me a wallet full of money as a gravy''? 👁 Confused :confused:

I would not say that. Plus, 'gravy' is uncountable.

To use metaphorical gravy in a sentence, you first need to have some metaphorical meat (the business taking care of the expenses, in boozer's example). Without this, the usage does not work.

Personally, I would not use "gravy" this way at all, and even "gravy train" seems rather an old-fashioned term.
