icon "Timer"

Hi everybody!

I'm translating a manual of a US Grilling Thermometer Fork and I have doubts concerning an icon "Timer" displayed on the LCD screen when the device is in Timer mode. Here's the context:

....In Timer mode, the icon "Timer" will be displayed.

I'm wondering if this icon is really an image (i.e. of a clock) or considering the inverted commas if the word 'timer' is displayed. What would a native think by simply reading this sentence?

Thanks in advance.
It suggests to me that the word "Timer" will be displayed. Which it might. Yet an icon isn't usually a word, it's some sort of symbol. If you swap "Timer" and icon in the sentence things could be different. In Timer mode, the "Timer" icon will be displayed. Even though it's a US product, where was it manufactured? Instructions can leave something to be desired when they've been translated.
It's a guess - I would say the word "Timer".
It's an American manufacturer located in the State of Washington. However, their manuals are not written in good English and especially this one should be thoroughly proofread. Anyway, I'm happy we share the same feeling about the word/icon 👁 Smile :)
. It's nice to have the opinion of a native. Thanks both of you!
Here is a page from the manual of a remote roasting thermometer the product sounds similar to the one you describe👁 Big Grin :D

MODEL # ET-77 REMOTE ROASTI NG THERMOMETER
Congratulations on your purchase of the Remote Roasting Thermometer, a programmable radio frequency food
thermometer. You will now be able to remotely monitor the time and temperature of food cooking in the oven or
outdoors from anywhere in your hom
On p.7 there is the following wording (how I found the document👁 Big Grin :D
)
Press [MODE] button to select the Timer mode, the timer icon " " will appear.
When that text is copied and pasted here the image is not copied (I found one online to paste here to illustrate. You might need to find a gif of the original icon to insert into your translation👁 Big Grin :D
Yes, but my text says ...the icon "Timer"... and hence my doubt
Thought it had to be "Timer icon". I have the same problem with manuals here in Italy that are often translated into Italian from English, and sometimes which have already been translated from another language into English before the Italian translation. 👁 Frown :(

I think this whole issue relates to the representation of images rather than characters in text as it goes from one place to the next (language to language, clipboard cut/paste etc). In the OP's case, it may be that there is a legend somewhere in the document in which the icons are given names. In that case, using the words "Timer icon" in the text will substitute for the use of a picture (as I did earlier) and should be used in the "translation".
