In reverse/backward

I would normally say backwards.

- Evol is love (spelled) backwards.
They do mean the same in this context, but it’s standard to describe a word as spelt backwards (BE spelling).

Are ''backward'' and ''in reverse'' meaning ''in reverse order'' in the examples that I made up below?

a. Xilften is Netflix backward / in reverse.
b. Evol is Love backward / in reverse.
I always say "spelled backwards", not just "backwards". "Backwards" could have a different meaning. For example, you can say a word backwards. That is reversing the sequence of sounds, not the sequence of written letters. So "love backwards" is "vul", not "evol".

I don't hear the phrase "in reverse" used to talk about the sequence of letters in a word. The phrase doesn't usually mean "in reverse order" for static things. Usually the phrase is about changing the time order of events, or changing the direction of movement. For example, the gear in an automobile that causes the car to move backwards is called "reverse" or "reverse gear".
