Hello,
I'm translating a legal text concerning the payment of damages and I've a couple of sentences I'm not sure of. This is one of them:

By a motion filed on XX/XX/XXXX, the plaintiff claimed the payment of USD XXXX as a compensation of the damage incurred the plaintiff for the treatment of John Smith, who suffered an injury physical attack by defendants Peter Johnson and Paul Johnson on XX/XX/XXXX.

Could you please look at the sentence and possibly correct any mistakes? Thank you.

Greetings Honza,

The plaintiff claimed payment of XXX USD as compensation for damage incurred by.... here it gets confusing. Who suffered the damage? The plaintiff? John Smith?

Plaintiff claims that defendants Peter Johnson and Paul Johnson committed a physical attack on John Smith, who suffered an injury. Plaintiff (Smith??) therefore claims compensation of XXX USD.

However, your original text is ambiguous, and does not make clear whether Smith or someone else--perhaps a doctor who treated Smith--is the plaintiff claiming monetary damages.
Yes, you are right. That's why I asked for the correction. The plaintiff is an insurance company and it claims a sum of money expended for the treatment of Mr Smith who was injured in a physical attack committed by the defendants P. Johnson and P. Johnson... The injured Mr Smith is a plaintiff's policy holder and the plaintiff therefore had to pay his treatment. The plaintiff now wants both criminals to pay back the expended money... Maybe I used the verb incur incorrectly. Can my sentence be reformulated so that it would be clear? Thanks a lot.
Thanks for clarifying Honza. Let's try again:

Plaintiff XYZ Insurance Company claims that defendants Peter Johnson and Paul Johnson committed a physical attack on John Smith, who suffered an injury. Plaintiff therefore claims compensation of XXX USD, as reimbursement for the expense incurred by XYZ in paying Smith's medical bills.
