inside out

Hi guys!

I want to say that " Neanderthals have shown extensive tooth wear from the inside out.. " but I have the feeling that's not the right meaning of inside out. I want to convey "from the side of the teeth inside their mouth to the outer/external side ...". I don't care for usage and examples of inside out, I just want to find a simple way of explaining the tooth wear.

Thanks!
The example you gave, Phryne, sounds ok to me. I often hear the phrase "inside out" in this way.

But, this sounds like a great alternative!:
Neanderthals have shown extensive tooth wear from the inside outwards.
