Hi all...
Im a bit new to the forum..infact, this is my first thread... 👁 Stick Out Tongue :p

I genuinely wish to know if the word introvertish is correct as an adjective drawn from the noun introvert...Some dictionaries say it should be introverted and some say introvertive...But i need an authentic example for the word introvertish...
Thanks a lot in advance...

The word "introvertish" seems unlikely to me. "Introvert" comes from Latin and is a high style word; "ish" is a English suffice with a decidedly colloquial feel when used to form adjectives nowadays (It does occur in a number of words that have been around for a long time like selfish or childish, however, without that colloquial ring). It would probably not be tacked on to a high-style word like introvert. "Introverted" strikes me as the correct adjective. But that's just my opinion.
No, introvertish is not a word. The correct form of introvert is introvert, introverted, introverting and introverts as a verb and introvert(s) as a noun. Also, introversion is another form of a noun; the act of introverting or the condition of being introverted. Introversive as an adjective shows up in my dictionary but I've never heard or seen it used.
i agree. i don't think "introvertish" is a word. when someone is introverted and prefers to spend time alone you can say that person is a "loner". you can also say of these people that "they keep to themselves" that they "like their privacy". these are good terms. terms that imply that a person is socially akward are:

a shrinking violet
mousy
a wallflower
a geek
a nerd
a stick-in-the-mud

you can just say "shy" of course, but remember that "timid" is more like "asustadizo" than "tímido".

That's the common definition of 'introverted' but when used by psychologists, psychotherapists and so so, the definition relates more to whether a person's general orientation is to the outside world (extravert or extrovert) or their internal thoughts and feelings (introvert). Some people love mixing with other people but their internal experience is more important to them than the outside world. Likewise, shrinking violets often rely more on external approval/judgement.

As for "introversive" I imagine it would be used in phrases like "introversive tendencies" but there are far better ways of saying the same thing - "tends to be introverted", for example. There's far too much jargonisation if you ask me...

I'm crawling out of my ensimismado-ish shell long enough to agree with
Jacinta and Garry. Are we being unduly jargonized by broadcasters and burrocrats? In my opinionated curmudgeonish way of thinking, we are.

I like ish just fine when it follows hard on the heels of a w or an f, so this is
not just backwardish sputtering, I hope.

Probably best to just drop the ish, then... 👁 Wink ;)
