Recently my student has used the phrase 'invest for' in her essay in the context, in which I would have used 'invest in'. I've looked up the phrase 'invest for' and I cannot find it in any dictionary, though it sometimes appears in some random articles online. Can you explain in which situations this phrase might be used? What is the actual difference between 'invest in' and 'invest for'? (if the latter exists at all)
Can you give us the sentence in question. You are probably right, and that it should be 'invest in', but to be certain, it would be useful to see it.

A few snippets containing 'invest for', found online:

"Invest for your future"
"We invest for people, profit and planet."
" . . . and if you invest for less than five years you might well make a loss."
" . . . need to invest for an income boost"
"Open to anyone over 18 who wants to invest for a child."
