Iron man

J'ai déjà vu un article sur le forum traitant de "Iron man" traduit par "l'homme de fer", mais je ne pense pas que ça convienne ici:

voilà le dialogue

- do I know you from anywhere ?

- Well, you tell me

- Did you compète in something? Triathlon?

- Iron man

- Iron man. Right, are you still training?
etc...

un indice, le gars est musclé, entraineur sportif et prend des anabolisants...
Je pencherais personnellement plus pour le culturisme ou l'haltérophilie...

ma question est: de quel sport s'agit-il?
comment peut-on traduire Iron man ?

From wikipedia in English:

Ironman Triathlon, a long-distance triathlon held in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, or other triathlon races of the same length licensed under the Ironman trademark.

It is a Trademarked name, so should stay as Ironman.
👁 Idea
un genre de "souleveur de fonte"?
On pourrait tenter :
- Vous faites des compètes de quelques chose? dans le triathlon?
- Dans la fonte.

👁 Thumbs Up

On parle effectivement d'Iron Man (au pire, triathlon extrême, mais il vaut mieux garder le terme anglais).
Ironman contests have been held in Australia for many years and presumably elsewhere as well. There are also ironwoman contests. I was not aware that it is a trademark and the word isn't used with a capital "I" dans mon coin. The following definitions from the (Australian) Macquarie Dictionary may help in finding a French translation. There are two separate entries:

ironman 1. a man of exceptional physical strength. 2. US Colloquial a dollar 3. Colloquial (formerly) a pound.
ironman 1. a noun, contestant in a sporting event in which male competitors swim, ride bikes and run in succession 2. adjective, of or relating to such an event. Also, ironwoman.

I would think it's the second entry you're interested in. The Wikipédia entry states that « d’autres compétitions utilisent également les distances de l'Ironman sans pouvoir en exploiter le nom ». I find this comment interesting because ironman (and ironwoman) competitions are held here on a regular basis (just an hour’s drive from Brisbane) and the competition is widely televised nationally as such. Maybe, we’re not allowed to use the word ironman with a capital “I”.
