Hi! What does "keep the witness' testimony out" mean in this sentence:

"That lawyer is constantly objecting. If with these objections he intends to keep the witness' testimony out, he is succeeding in that!"

Testimony is what witnesses say when answering questions in the witness box in court. But of their comments, only those deemed admissible by the judge can be taken into account. To try and get the judge to rule out as much as possible of a particular witness’s testimony, a lawyer for the other side of the case can submit a series of objections to things they say – and that’s what’s happening in your example.
