Knowing

Hello everybody,

I have a problem with the translation of this word in two different parts of the document:

In the first "we begin immediately with reading as a paradigm of knowing, in other words of understanding and judging"

that is to say "leggere come un paradigma di conoscenza"

In the second "in the contextual sequence of human knowing" that I have translated in:

"nella sequenza contestuale dell'umano sapere"

Both the sentence makes no sense in italian, i.e. I do not understand the meaning...maybe you can hel me.

I'm not surprised that the Italian makes no sense, because the English sounds very odd,
and is typical of psychological or educational literature.

Let's try English to English first:
...we begin immediately with reading as a paradigm of knowing, in other words of understanding and judging
...we begin immediately with the assumption that reading should be a paradigm of knowing something/knowledge, in other words reading is a paradigm of understanding and judging.

...in the contextual sequence of human knowing...
.....................................................knowledge...

I can only think of "conoscenza" or "l'abilità di sapere qualcosa".

Thank you Timla, so, do you think "sequenza contestuale" (constestual sentence) is an appropiate translation due to we are talking about "conoscenza"?

I think it's so vague in English, that you can be very liberal in the translation.
If "sequenza contestuale" sounds reasonable, I'd go for it!
