La mancha difusa

British English
"En el cielo, sobre mi cabeza, se repite contra la negrura la mancha difusa de la Vía Láctea"
No entiendo "la mancha difusa", busco una traducción al inglés...
A description of the Milky Way as a blurry stain. (I know stain is not the word I'm looking for.)
In the sky, above my head, the vague patch of the Milky Way spreads out against the blackness.
The text is very descriptive and sophisticated so I have to find an equivalent in English!
maybe distant instead of vague?

Difusa is literally diffused, not concentrated, so it's not about being distant, it's about not being very clear. In most parts of the world (with light pollution), it is hard to see the Milky Way, so the patch of stars that make up our galaxy is faint, indistinct, vague.
Patch! You must have read my mind, Gengo. 👁 Smile :)

Your translation is also much more descriptive and sophisticated than mine, if I may say.
Hmm I don't think things in the sky are vague, hazy maybe..I appreciate your help though

vague
adj.
3. Lacking definite shape, form, or character; indistinct: saw a vague outline of a building through the fog.

From Google:
The Milky Way, a vague hoop of light, spanned the sky.
The Milky Way, a vague chalky cloud, smudged across a dusty blackboard, in need of a wet cloth.
Meteors scratched some short lines in the mute sky; I swore I had seen the vague Milky Way.
...and many, many more
