liver failure

Does anyone know the French equivalent for "liver failure"? It's essentially when the liver stops functioning. I don't think "arrêt du foie" works....
Hi
The main liver diseases are: le cancer du foie, la cirrhoses (well known for alcoholics) et l'hépathite.

Edit:
In fact the liver failure seems to be the final stage of the 3 diseases I mentionned. maybe insuffisance hépathique is the right expression, as we don't say in French défaillance du foie.

Actually, the liver failure I'm talking about is due to cancer. Would your solution still work -- it sounds more linked with hepatitis?
Not specifically linked with the disease but same root, probably coming from a Greek word which means liver.
Could I use a verb instead of a noun and say "Son foie arrête de fonctionner normalement"? It doesn't have those medical-sounding undertones.
I'd rather say "son foie ne fonctionne plus normalement" ou bien "il est en insuffisance hépathique"
Un peu tard, mais je confirme que cela signifie "Insuffisance hépatique".
