What does "long pull" mean? Thank you.
A pull usually describes an enthusiastic drink taken from a bottle or large glass (say, of beer). A long pull even more so. It sounds as though his thirst increased over the course of the paragraphs, if he was eventually swigging whisky out of the bottle or taking it in pints...
