Bonjour,

I have an issue translating "mental construct" within a historical concept. Here is the sentence (it's a tittle):
"The Angevin Empire as Mental Construct" and here is my translation: "L'empire angevin en tant que construction mentale". But even though I get the idea behind it, I am not quite sure that it is directly understandable from a French perspective. We could also say : concept mental but still...

Suggestions anyone please? Thank you!

On parle fréquemment de construction de l'esprit.
Justement, je ne suis pas sure. Je pense qu'il s'agit de la façon dont était perçu l'empire angevin au 12ème siècle. La phrase revient plus loin: "•The Plantagenet kings do not consciously construct an Angevin Empire et •But mental constructs can arise without being consciously created" Il s'agit de "points" sur un powerpoint...
Sur le modèle "time is a mental construct", je comprends concept(ion) intellectuel(le) ou conception de l'esprit.

J'éviterais "mental" en français, trop connoté. 👁 Smile :)

Un concept est plutôt une représentation mentale ; je préfère conception intellectuelle ou élaboration intellectuelle, qui laissent une part claire à l'invention et la création.
