I'm perplexed here about "mental function".

"His idea of a is getting pissed at the Christmas party."

The context is a man whose sense of psychology towards his employees is scarce.
Not sure to properly nail "mental function" here.

Something along these lines ?

Il y a un jeu de mots et un détournement de sens sur "function" (fête, réception) et "mental " (wild, crazed)

Pas simple, mais on peut tenter quelque chose comme :

(Note that get pissed would mean se fâcher in US English, but given the context I suppose that isn't what you have here.)
