At the premiere of a movie of a popular franchise, a public event where the actors participate, a reporter notices the actor who played the villain in the previous film, being dressed up like the character:

What does 'method' mean here please?

It is a reference to the acting technique called "method acting" (whereby the actor seeks to give a convincing/sincere performance by close identification with the character portrayed).
