We have roast mutton/sheep for dinner.

Hi,

Do both "mutton" and "sheep" or "sheep meat" fit in the above and mean about the same? Thanks.
No, we would not refer to roast sheep meat.

Note the difference between roast mutton and roast lamb.

Mutton is meat from an adult sheep.

Lamb is meat from a lamb.
But you never see mutton for sale in the UK, it is always lamb. (Even if technically it should be mutton)
