Nice catch

Hello,

I am wondering how to translate the sentence "Nice catch", in a situation where someone throws a ball at you, you catch it well and the person says : "Nice catch". Or in a sports (basketball, for instance) commentary.

It seems to me that we would never use the word "prise" in French, which evokes fishing, as in "Belle prise" or "Jolie prise".

I was thinking of "Bien attrapé", but I am looking for other ways to say it in French...

Could you help me, please? 👁 Smile :)
Hi Youngneil,

You can use "prise", but you just need to specify what was caught: "belle prise de balle"!

Aslo, depending on the exact situation, other expressions are more frequently used. If it's about catching a ball passed at you, I think we would say "belle passe", although I admit it's not an exact translation: "belle passe" praises not only the catcher but also the thrower of the ball.
You can also say "belle interception", if the catch was about intercepting an ennemy ball that wasn't intended to be caught by you. We also very frequently use "bel arrêt", if it's a catch by the goal keeper.

"Belle prise de balle" étant un peu long à prononcer, dans un contexte réelle je pense que "belle prise..." pourrait être parfaitement utlisée. Le contexte suggère la balle sans aucun problème. Pour moi "prise" n'est pas obligatoirement liée au poisson.

Autrement des expressions très très courtes et très simples du type : "joli coup...", même "joli...", "bien..." me semblent assez réalistes.
