I don't understand what normative means in the dictionary. Can someone explain it in layman's term?

Thanks.
In the simplest of terms, it has to do with what is judged as "normal", as determined by some generally accepted standard or standards.

Normative growth = growth within a normal range or growth in a normal fashion

If your child has grown a meter in one year, that is not "normative growth." 👁 Smile :)
To understand normative you need to look at "norm". A "norm" is something that is standard, or usual, for example in behaviour (e.g. social norms) or speech. Normative is the adjective: relating to a standard or a norm. Something that conforms to a standard can be called normative (e.g. normative behaviour, is behaviour that conforms to what is considered standard), or a rule that sets out what is standard can be described as a normative rule.
