on stipulation

Hello,
a judgment of dissolution of marriage issued in California says: "The parties are restored to the status of single persons on a date to be determined on noticed motion of either party or on stipulation". Does "on stipulation" mean that the court is supposed to stipulate it? Or is it simply a synonym for "by agreement (of the parties)"?
Thanks.
I see it like this:
The partnership is dissolved (a) on a date already specified, or (b) on a date yet to be set, either on the basis of a notice of motion whereby one of the parties proposes a particular date, or as decided/stipulated by the court (presumably because no such proposal has been made by either party).
Stipulated Judgment

In legal terms, a stipulation means there's no need for the court to rule on a certain issue, because the parties to the lawsuit already agree on it. You and your spouse might stipulate to certain facts as part of your divorce trial, such as the date you were married or separated, or the number of children you have.

on a date to be determined on noticed motion of either party or on stipulation

After reading a bit, my guess to the meaning is:

The date still be determined when either party comes to court individually and makes a motion to have the date set at a specific date (and then some sort of hearing will be held involving the other party) or both parties come to court and stipulate that they have agreed on a date that is satisfactory to both.
