I think the phrase is "it has the quiet ping of truth", ping being sound.

are you sure it´s not the "quiet ring of truth"? Something can "ring true" in English if it really is true--but not "ping true".

I associate ping with the noise a bullet makes. See this definition.

Therefore I think the use of ping rather than ring could be deliberate to suggest how truth can hurt.
Quiet suggests that the truth hits you like a bullet without you hearing it coming.

En el inglés Británico "ping" tiene otros significados, que han surgido como consecuencia del desarrollo tecnológico de la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Podrían ser útiles para responder la pregunta. Están muy bien descritos en el siguiente enlace que he descubierto recientemente.
