Come si dice, " put it back!" as if I were telling my daughter to put her doll back?

Molte Grazie
Is "rimettere" a reflexive verb?
Is "rimettere" a reflexive verb?

Nope, iterative. The principle being, mettere a posto implies putting a thing in a designated place for the first time, thereby designating the place. Once it's there and taken out of place one has to rimettere (put once again) the thing in its designated place. ๐Ÿ‘ Big Grin :D

A reflexive verb in Italian mostly ends in RSI. Mettere (put) Mettersi (put oneself)
I understand.. I think. When you say " mettilo", that is "you put a thing in a designated spot.. the first time. The "Ti" in mettilo, is " you" correct? So then what is he/she/ it/we/they.

Metti (tu) lo oggetto. EEEK not really Italian, but that's how it breaks. Mettere is declined suchly:

Io metto, tu metti egli mette noi mettiamo voi mettete essi mettono.

Metti (tu) is the imperative or commanding mode. So Mettilo would refer to a (in Italian male gendered) thing named before in a sentence, or named by some other person talking.

For example: "Che ne faccio di questo piatto?" "Mettilo a posto"
"What do I do with this plate?" "Put it in its place." eek 'orrible English here. Examples are definitely NOT my forte.

I hope it's clear now.

P. S. Sorry Simona, I'm quite sure you're tired and/or your fingers slipped on the keyboard and you meant the 'lo' part means it. ๐Ÿ‘ Smile :)
Ciao a tutti!!
"Put back" potrebbe funzionare anche con la frase: " la statua viene ricollocata al suo posto" ( si sta parlando di una processione religiosa che termina dentro la cattedrale quando la statua del santo รจ rimessa al suo posto)??
My translation: "The statue is put back in its place".
Grazie.
