react differently

I am not asking the literal meaning of the expression. I am just confused with the structure of the sentence considering the whole paragraph, esp. the sentence in the end. Does it mean men react, in a different way from women, to women when they are on birth control?

Context:
There is also accumulating evidence indicating men react differently to women when they are on birth control. A 2004 study in the journal in Behavioral Ecology used the T-shirt study methodology but instead put the shirts on 81 women. A panel of 31 men, smelling the T-shirts, experienced the greatest attraction for the non-pill-using women when they were ovulating. Twelve women on the panel didn't detect any difference.

Men have different reactions to women depending on if the women take birth control pills or not. According to the experiment's results, they are more attracted to women who are ovulating than to those who take birth control pills.
After a second thought, I guess I get it: the sentence at the end of the paragraph does not seem related with the first sentence in the way I had believed in the beginning. Thank you Tazzler.
