rear up

Dear all, I was wondering what 'rear up' could mean in this context:
'S. Iohnes stoode in this state, vntill those heuie tymes, and that greuous change that chanced. whan mo perfite scholers were dispersed from thence in one moneth, than many yeares can reare vp againe.' (taken from Ascham, Roger, The Scholemaster.)

It seems reasonable to interpret reare vp as something like produce. It would take many years to produce a group of scholars that was as big as the group of scholars that dispersed from that school in one month.

Yes, or "raise up." "Rear" as in "child rearing."
