repeatable

Salut!

I am working on a "How to submit your work" info sheet for a French & Italian literary magazine and am describing the steps in the editing process. I am having trouble translating "repeatable" in this line:

Step 2: Revision (repeatable)

The suggestions in the WR dictionary are "renouvelable" and "reproductible," but neither sounds quite right to me... both of them seem to give the sense of a completed action that can be taken up again, but I want to emphasize the sense of a process.

Maybe it would sound better without an adjective? My attempt to translate the sense requires some change in syntax:

Etape 2: Révision (cet étape peut se répéter)

And perhaps "cet étape" is optional. Your opinions?

Merci bien!

Hi,

since "étape" is feminine, you would rather write "cette étape".
What are the other steps ?
Bonsoir!

The other steps are "Soumission initiale" and "Soumission finale" (of the work), but I am still considering the wording for that, because "soumission" doesn't sound quite right... so it's:

1) Soumission initiale (vous nous soumettez votre article et nous le commentons)
2) Révision (nous vous le redonnons; vous le révisez, puis nous le renvoyez, et un autre éditeur le commente)
3) Soumission finale

C'est logique?

Thanks for pointing out the gender of "étape"!

Cath, I had also thought of just adding an "s"... do you think readers understand what is implied?
Hi,

"soumission" is often used by french mathematicians for that purpose. Might be a bad translation from english, though.

Well, yes, I'm pretty sure they would. I, for one, would. 👁 Big Grin :D
Eh bien alors, je ferai confiance aux mathématiciens! Ce qui est important, c'est que nos membres comprennent et si c'est un peu d'un anglicisme, alors disons-nous que le français en est enrichi...

Cath: bien sûr! je le garde alors, c'est le plus élégant des solutions.

Merci de votre aide!
