respectable press

Dear All"
What does "respectable press" mean in the following passage? It is from the book Soldiers, Shahs and Subalterns in Iran, p. 132.

Urban crowds, both in the capital and in the provincial cities, were assembled in a number of ways, through the print media, the respectable
press and the more disreputable shabnamah, through word of mouth, and through deliberate mobilization by preachers in mosques aided
by their networks of supporters in the bazars and the guilds.

I think it means newspapers with large circulation, but I am not sure.
Thanks vey much.
"The respectable press" would mean "legitimate, reputable newspapers etc." as opposed to the shabnamah.
Dear Newt:
Thanks very much. I have thought another thing. Thanks again.
