Rude

Hi guys,

May I ask for some friendly advice on which of the following words you would recommend for the adjective "rude".

جَافٍ, جِلْف, خَام, خَشِن, غَلِيظ, فَظّ، غير أديب

The context is someone speaking to others in an impolite way - perhaps they were short with their words, impatient, raised their voice etc.

In addition, can we say "mish adeeb" in the Egyptian dialect?

hello,
the most appropriate expression is:
فَظّ (recommended)
or
جِلْف (good also)
i like to add that
غير أديب is a wrong expression
you can use: قليل الأدب (it means impolite)

جلف jilf and some people call this person as dry :ناشف nashif colloquially.
you can say غير لبق ghayr labiq

i think in the formal arabic we can't say ناشف to decribe peaple,
perhaps in saudi dialect ?
غير لبق is a good expression, in fact لبق (the noun isلباقة)is a high level of appropriateness in the way of behaving, however, while describing someone who is very impolite,i think that قليل الأدب, جِلْف, فَظّ are much more eloquents

I think فظ is the most common word.
It's also in the Qur'an:

فَبِمَا رَحْمَةٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ لِنتَ لَهُمْ وَلَوْ كُنْتَ فَظّاً غَلِيظَ ٱلْقَلْبِ لاَنْفَضُّواْ مِنْ حَوْلِكَ
سورة آل عمران، آية 159.

It's the first time I read "ghayru adiibin".
In Egyptian, we say: aliil el-adab قليل الأدب and there's also alil elzoo2 قليل الذوق for someone with bad manners or rude.
If he's really really very rude and ill-mannered, then you can even say that he's 3adim ez-zoo2 عديم الذوق .
