Run down

Hi there,

"We are running down of change/coins" (we are not running out yet, but we are about to it)

Does everybody know if this makes sense in English? I know you can say "running low", but I´d like to know if that is correct.

Thanks a lot.
No, that does not sound very idiomatic. Stick with "running low on change" and "running out of change".

When I hear "running down", I think of an errand..."He´s running down to the store to pick up some bread."

Un saludo.
I have never heard "running down" in this context.

I think your suggestion "we are running low on coins" sounds good. Also, "the coins are getting low".
