serial sergeant

Hi everybody,

How to translate serial sergeant?

The context is: "I assume the message had come to our serial sergeant and was spread to us all..." (a police officer is speaking)
The book is a sort of report of a sad event in which police had responsibilities for crowd management.
I can't undestand the meaning of serial, in that case.
Thanks for your help.
Ciao,
"Serial", come dice questo dizionario http://www.thefreedictionary.com/serial può essere "...a group of people, vehicles, equipment, or supplies and is used in airborne, air assault, amphibious operations, and convoys".
Inoltre ho trovato questo riferimento: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Territorial_Support_Group "XXX are the standard vehicle of TSG and each van transports six Constables and a Sergeant. Three of these vans can form an operational Serial ready to respond to incidents; following the national PSU model this would include an Inspector, three Sergeants, eighteen Constables, two medics and three drivers".
Forse i madrelingua adesso interverranno.
