Remarkable" is a word that many people used to describe baseball's inaugural international event just three months ago. There were 16 nations, and from the openers to the shockers to the pageantry to the final victory by Japan over Cuba, it was remarkable in every way. Double the number of nations and throw in the rich tradition of the event and its ability to solidify communities in so many corners of the Earth (even stopping the occasional war), and you can see why the World Cup makes someone like Jack Wilson say.

What is this?
Hi there,

I think it just means the unexpected things that happened during the tournament, e.g. an underdog team winning, or someone throwing a tantrum!! Not much of a baseball fan (I am English, after all...), so I don't know any specifics, but that's the kind of thing it would refer to.
Georgeloise,

This is about soccer/football, not baseball.

Shocker=shocking outcome of a match=completely unexpected result. Example-- Ecuador defeats Brasil
Thanks, by the way, it is about the world cup being compared to the baseball classic.

PS. what are the odds for England?
Apologies to both of you. I should drink coffee before stepping into the batter's box, or attempting a corner kick. Reading carefully wouldn't hurt either.
Apologies accepted, but why?
