Bonjour,

Je ne comprends pas la signification de sniff-off dans la phrase: Wish us luck at the Queen's Sniff-Off. Cela nous a porté chance lors du.... de la reine? Sniff-off fait-il référence à une célébration particulière?
Merci
Who is/are the queen? Elizabeth or the pop group?
Sniff-off is a reference to a play-off in sport or a bully-off in hockey or a tip-off in baseball.
So you can make up any competition and say "please wish us luck in the competition and hope we come first".
One example is cooking competitions on tv where the finalists come down to 3 or 4 for the "cook-off".
Or wine=tasting competitions where the winners of the early rounds all meet in the final for a taste-off.
Sniff-off has no meaning out of context but by analogy could be some fantasy competition for perfumes??? or blind herb-sniffing?
Wish us luck by the way means veuillez nous souhaiter bonne chance and not that brought us luck when/at ...
