spider out

Hello, this is a sentence a friend told me today. She's reading the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.

One sentence there says:

The toaster spidered out a piece of buttered bread for him. He held it in his hand, feeling obligated.

We are in doubt about the meaning of "spider out". He's indeed talking about a real toaster, so why does he use that verb? Any clue?

Thank you in advance!!
Earlier in the text it says:

Toast popped out of the silver toaster, was seized by a spidery metal hand that drenched it with melted butter.

The author has invented the verb spider to describe its spider-like actions.
