step stool

To be precise, what you are looking for is "un marchepied".

A "marchepied" is in fact an "escabeau" with 2 or three steps, as defined by the Larousse: "Marchepied: escabeau à deux ou trois marches".

"Escabeau" is defined as a small indoor, folding ladder, so it's bigger than a step stool.
Although the site picturing the item that Vampire Rockster was trying to identify in 2008 is no longer available, the description of a [ step stool as in the picture, used by stores to put products on hard-to-reach shelves?[/QUOTE] sounded to me like those large devices pictured here :

(If this site becomes unavailable in the future, please note that the rolling ladders pictured ha 5-10 steps an railing on both sides.)

I see now that Vampire Rocker's original site is labeled as "step stool" images, which I didn't notice before, and that would correspond to "marche pied".

But woud the ones pictured in the site I am listing above be "escabeaux"?

Thanks -- Eliane
