substrate

Hello,

I am working on a document dealing with dry adhesive for flooring (not actually sure that flooring is the right word either!!).

For the following : "surface d'application" I found 'substrate' as the English translation.

I was hoping someone could confirm this as I have never heard of this word!!

A substrate (or substratum) is a base layer onto which surfaces may be applied. Also in gardening, it's the planting medium e.g. soil or peat.
