Hello, everyone!
In a comic boook I am translating there is a character named Jeff, a young guy in his twenties, who has twice in his dialogue the exclamation "Super chud!" - once when he wins a game of craps, the other time when he is about to detonate some explosives. Is there any meaning behind this or is it just a nonsencial exclamation, such as "Oie-yah!" which he also uses from time to time?
The expression means nothing to me. Can you let us know more about the source: the comic title and publisher?
It's unlikely, but it looks like the French "Super chaud !" (note the missing letter), which literally means "Super hot!" but which could be used with the meaning of "Wicked!" or possibly "That was close". I assume you would have noticed already if the character was French, but could he be, say, Canadian, perhaps? Or it could be just a quirk of his, like Doctor Who's catchphrase "Allons-y!".

The only thing "chud" means to me is cannibalistic humanoid underground dweller, as defined in the 1984 science-fiction horror film C.H.U.D.

Odds are, if this character is the only person in the book who says, "super chud," we're to understand that he is a person who coins his own slang phrases. If other characters occasionally say "chud," we can understand that the word has some meaning in the world of the comic book. I can easily imagine either being the case. They're both fairly typical comic book conventions.
The only chud I've heard of is C.H.U.D. from the movie of that name.

It stands for cannibalistic humanoid underground dwellers.

I assume this is "Selina's Big Score" by Darwyn Cooke. The words seem entirely idiosyncratic.

I believe mainstream comic book writers do this partly because they cannot use the actual words you would hear in the real world (e.g. "fuck yea!") and partly because being distinctive in comics is important to your audience.
Yes, you are right, jmichaelm, "Selina’s Big Score" it is. And the the guy should not be French or Canadian, French Canadians are the antagonists in this book who kill him, by the way. But the French origin of the phrase could be a good lead, thank you, Oddmania. This guy also uses some Spanish words so he may coin his own slang phrases regardless of his ethnicity as Juhasz suggested. Since he is the only one to use this phrase I think I am free to use any unique and strange sounding Czech phrase for my translation. Thank you all for helping me out.
