trestle

This is a word that I don't remember having heard before. It appears in a section of text that I'd like to translate and is acting as a bit of a stumbling block. Unfortunately I can't give much more context than what's given in the excerpt below since the excerpt appears in the text in a disconnected manner.

There was a trestle that she had been wanting to walk, except her mother wouldn't let her. She did anyway. It was fun on that trestle, but she got a spanking when she got home.

From the dictionary, I have a decent idea of what it might mean, but I'd like to hear what others say before being certain.
Thanks everybody! You've cleared up the ambiguities completely now. Yes, Dimcl, Manitoba is not exactly known for its trestles. Our highest peak has a tower on top to see the view over the trees 👁 Smile :)
