Can I say just like this? Don't I need "of something" after "unaware"?

I would rather see something of which he's unaware. What do you want it to mean?
We'd need more context. What leads you to make this proclamation? One needs to be unconscious to be declared 'unaware'. Otherwise the person is aware of something, that is what being conscious means. They may not be aware of the matter in question, or they may lack the sense with which to perceive the matter in question.

The contestant in a game show may be blindfolded and only visually unaware, or they mayin a sound-proofed booth which stops them from hearing the questions posed to their competitor, and so on.

Normally one is "unaware of ~".
The 'of something' need not be stated directly, but should be understood by the context.

"We planned a surprise party for Jim, and he was totally unware."
