Hello,

Can I replace worldwide instead of universal in this second sentence since I do not want to repeat the word universal :

"Such universal characters are exemplified in a general context; in other words, they are associated with worldwide criteria of decorum".

Yes, you probably can use worldwide there, but without a little more context, it is difficult to verify if that will convey the same idea as universal.

As a side note, 'characters' may be incorrect. You may wish to open a new thread for characters - characteristics.
I wouldn't... but another thought is that the "Such... characters" makes me think you've already described the characters before this sentence, so perhaps you can leave out the first instance, like this:
"Such characters are exemplified in a general context; in other words, they are associated with universal criteria of decorum".
Yes, I have already described those characters.
