Hello,

I am a new member. I found the following word: V-wedge and there is no clear explanation about. I don't know whether it is a fashion glossary or a particular slang.

That's called its context , and it's very important, because V-wedge could mean several different things.

thank you for the answer. I found the word in William Procnau's article Adventures in the ransom trade published by Vanity Fair. He was describing who met and wrote: Tejeda approached me tailored like a V-wedge. This way of describing someone who is so elegant and and has got many other things is so particular.
I am told by a lady friend that a v-wedge is a very minimal kind of women's knickers, - a thong, in fact, which barely covers the private parts.

That wouldn't require much tailoring to make, I guess - so perhaps "tailored like a v-wedge" means "virtually naked"?
Here's the immediate context, taken from William Prochnau: Adventures in the Ransom Trade:
A border-town Mexican-American from West Texas, Tejeda has a threateningly handsome peasant’s face, razor-cut obsidian hair, and a black goatee flecked with gray. His $1,500 black wool suit, subtly pin-striped, tapers from powerful shoulders to high-polished black loafers. Tejeda approaches me like a tailored V-wedge. On one wrist he wears an $8,500 gold Rolex; on the other, a gold chain and a self-designed gold ring inset with diamonds.​

I don't think @abluter's "virtually naked" suggestion works. That said, I don't have an alternative answer, myself👁 Frown :(

Ah, so it's the approaching that's like a tailored v-wedge, - provocative, challenging, insolent? We are already told that he is threateningly handsome.

(Being too lazy to check the context, I had assumed that Tejeda was a woman)
Or, given the "tapers from ... shoulders to ... loafers", the "V" might refer to his whole body, rather than just his top half.

I gather that V-wedges are a type of golf club. Could that be relevant?

The V-wedge body shape is associated, as se16teddy, says with exaggeratedly broad shoulders and a muscular body. With a certain style of clothing, it is also associated with gangsters.
I don't know what it means but another possibility is that it's a football reference.

I've never heard this specific term v-wedge, but the flying wedge is a very famous play in American football that had the players running together in a v formation. It was a very effective and intimidating play but was banned in 1894 for being too dangerous, because it led to numerous injuries and even some deaths. It was the start of an era of a consolidation of the rules and regulations that more precisely controlled the game.

So in this context it could indicate an intimidating approach. It might be overlapping with the reference to a torso shape above.
