vantage point

Hi,

a vantage point is a good position you can see something from.
I would like to say that a certain idea provides a good position to see something from in the development of a certain field of research.

Can I say "this revision is a vantage point"?
Should I prefer "this revision provides a vantage point?" or else? How would you say that?
The full sentence sounds like this "this revision is a vantage point because it no longer states an ad hoc constraint on X but it is a simpler and more general condition on representations of Xs"

Thank you,
Harold
I'd avoid "vantage point" in this sentence, Smoking Harold. People could find the term confusing in this context because a "vantage point" is generally a literal position somewhere rather than a figurative one.

If I were writing your sentence, I'd find another way to express the idea:
"This revision allows people to view the topic in a new way. It no longer states..."
Thank you Ownlman. Unfortunately I was exactly looking for some rhetoric image in order to put this particular thing I am writing about under the spotlight, to avoid it floating away with many other "new ideas" I deal with.

I am wondering how common it is to use 'from my vantage point' as a way to express your opinion? (For example: 'In my humble opinion, this situation is really hopeless' = 'From my vantage point, this situation is really hopeless').
